C ARTS International Online Digital Performance Program Comes to New Zealand

The award-winning online digital program of performance and creative work C ARTS is coming to the New Zealand Fringe, Poneke (Wellington), in 2022, with a hand-picked selection from the full C ARTS program of over 50 shows.
The C ARTS New Zealand Fringe season features two French-style cabaret plays: Stefanie Rummel invites you to live the French way in
Songs: songs and stories by Piaf, Brel and mewhile Eliane Morelit’s opera Disenchanted: a cabaret of twisted fairy tales explores the dark side of well-known fairy tale characters.
There is dance by Japanese artists Chiharu Kuronuma and Teruki Okamoto with
I/O – a quadruple program of four short multi-arts pieces fusing dance with juggling, throwing and calligraphy – and by Israeli dancer and choreographer Tal Levy Cohen with
Talan examination of her experiences with bulimia through dance and storytelling.
The selection presents very different plays from all over the world. Three solo pieces from the United States address issues of our times and of all times:
Diana Varcoit’s
Bursts is a satirical, burning and moving personal story. Deaon Griffin-Pressleyphysical play
satan vs god investigates the fall of Lucifer and asks questions that remain taboo.
Elise Robertsonit’s Imagine Rachel investigates the life and work of Rachel Carson, a mid-20th century ecologist, and humanity’s relationship with nature. These three solo plays, in each of which an actor plays several different characters, are presented alongside the Hong Kong company
Ronin Theaterthe overall production of Zen practicefolklore staged in a fable for modern times.
This is your chance to see cutting-edge independent international performance as part of the New Zealand Fringe until March 12. Shows continue in the C ARTS online program year-round.
Digital performance is a way for these artists to reach new international audiences and a way for audiences in New Zealand and around the world to experience international performance with a low carbon footprint. Tickets start from NZ$7.
