Tesla tops rankings in automotive ‘future readiness indicator’ research study
Which automaker is best prepared for the future? One of Europe’s top business schools, IMD, recently released its Future readiness indicator study and focused specifically on the automotive sector for its analysis. According to IMD, Tesla was the automaker that dominated the rankings.
“Cars are already supercomputers on wheels,” IMD reports. “This brings us to Tesla. Unlike how almost everyone builds cars, Tesla divides overall architecture differently. It optimizes permanent connectivity. There are four controlled areas: autopilot; central information displays; instrument groups; and energy transmission and storage.
In turn, “[Tesla’s cars] are priorities for digital and electrical technologies, allowing software updates on-line, and allowing remote access and autonomous driving. This design is also optimized for data collection and algorithm testing, making software deployment easier. “

Having said that, “Tesla is [have] the characteristics of the car of the future; they will allow interaction with the road infrastructure and make wireless communication possible with other vehicles. Still, that doesn’t mean traditional automakers can’t win. They just need to learn a lot of things, quickly.
“What sets Tesla apart even more is that Elon Musk takes advantage of his current capabilities; those that its competitors are still learning. Given all of these pressures, it’s no wonder the auto industry is not optimistic – it faces too much disruption. All this electrification and connectivity is pushing manufacturers to scramble, ”IMD reports.

Ultimately, when it comes to its analysis of the rapidly changing auto industry, IMD concludes, “Tesla is the ultimate outlier. “
