The Curse of La Patasola follows two struggling couples haunted by a monster, testing their relationships, morality, and will to survive.
Patasola, known in South American folklore as a vampiric monster that appears in the wild when male hunters or loggers start thinking about women, is enough to send us running in fear. That’s if, according to folklore, Patasola didn’t take on a decoy appearance only to reveal his true hideous form as soon as it’s too late. Moving and horrifying, isn’t it? What exactly is the tone of the producers of the independent horror film The Curse Of The Patasola aim to capture.
The Patasola follows two struggling couples haunted by the famous monster, testing their relationships, morality and will to survive. The film marks the directorial debut of actor and screenwriter AJ Jones (Lovecraft Country), with a story co-created by Jones and Florida native Daniela Gonzalez (Frenemies). The film also stars Luciana Faulhaber (shades of blue), Patrick R. Walker (the resident), Najah Bradley (Black Box) and Gillie Jones (Mr. Frost). Rounding out the cast, Jack Young (The perfect race) and Mark Pettit (real detective).
The film’s original score was developed by Kelsey Woods and Broadway actress and composer Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer wrote and performed The Curse of La Patasola theme song.
Weird Sounds of Wilderness
“The Curse of La Patasola is a character-driven thriller that we believe will appeal to a wide audience,” said Tony Piantedosi, vice president of acquisitions at Vertical Entertainment, which just secured the distribution rights for the independent thriller across the North. America. “We were drawn to the story, the mythology and how the monster came to life – and we think fans are going to really enjoy this film.”

Vertical’s Past Hits Include Channing Godfrey Peoples Miss Juneteenth, starring Nicole Beharie in her performance that won the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actress and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture Music, directed by Sia and starring Kate Hudson, winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Aiming to continue the success, The Curse of La Patasola is set to hit theaters in 10 major markets and will be available on streaming media and other platforms on January 14, 2022.
